United scouts watch £37.5m Lisbon midfield star Carvalho for eighth time this season
Manchester United scouts have checked on Portugal midfielder William Carvalho for the eighth time this season.
David Moyes's staff watched the 21-year-old schemer during Sporting Lisbon’s goalless draw with Academica on Sunday evening and their presence was reported in Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
Carvalho made his debut for Portugal in a World Cup qualifier against Sweden in November and is expected to take a place in Paulo Bento’s squad for Brazil.
His contract expires in 2018 and is understood to contain a release clause in the region of £37.5million, although United would hope to negotiate a considerably cheaper deal.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be monitoring the powerful midfielder who enjoyed a loan spell with Belgian club Cercle Brugge last season.
Carvalho has scored twice in his 17 club appearances so far this season and his combative style has seen him pick up five bookings.
His presence at United could be necessary if Anderson is to be believed. The midfielder, on loan at Fiorentina, claims there could be an exodus at Old Trafford.
Liverpool defender Wisdom posts picture of him partying with model from Panama
You don't usually associate defenders with having dancing feet but it seems Andre Wisdom has bucked that trend.
And the Liverpool defender, on loan at Derby, is certainly choosing his partner on the dancefloor well, if his pictures are anything to go by.
Wisdom was snapped out with Stephanie Caicedo, a 24-year-old model, TV presenter and actress from Panama who, according to her Twitter bio, loves life and God.
Wisdom has played 18 times for Derby this season and has been a key factor in their resurgence under Steve McClaren.
However, the 20-year-old has been in the news for off-field matters, mostly relating to his car.
He was fined for speeding in November after pleading guilty in court, and earlier that month he got his Porsche stuck in a muddy ditch and had to leave it there.
Leeds United: Owner GFH Capital set for talks with new bidde
Leeds chairman Salah Nooruddin has insisted that GFH Capital remains the club's owner - as the group prepares for fresh takeover talks on Tuesday.
Italian Massimo Cellino has agreed to buy a 75% stake in the club but has yet to receive Football League approval.
Now talks are planned in London with another interested party.
The Sport Capital and Together Leeds consortiums have teamed up to buy the club, dismissing Cellino's bid and promising to match his offer.
The latest development is yet another twist in the ongoing saga surrounding the ownership of the mid-table Championship club.
It follows the reinstatement of Brian McDermott as the club's manager after the controversial Cellino, who also owns Serie A club Cagliari, attempted to sack him on Friday.
It also comes after Chris Farnell, the lawyer working for Cellino, was escorted from Elland Road on Monday by managing director David Haigh, director Salem Patel and security staff.
Nooruddin has also issued an email to Leeds United staff in an attempt to bring some clarity to the situation and informing them not to take instructions from anyone other than GFH.
Joe Kinnear resigns as Newcastle United director of football
Joe Kinnear has resigned as Newcastle's director of football after less than eight months in the role.
The 67-year-old, who was above manager Alan Pardew in the club's management structure, claimed to be overseeing player recruitment.
However, the Magpies failed to sign anyone on a permanent deal during his second spell on Tyneside.
After Saturday's loss to Sunderland,Pardew made it clear he was unhappy at the club's lack of transfer activity.
"If I was in charge, solely, of transfers, things might be different but I'm not," he said. "I think I've made my opinions very clear this week and all the rest of it is confidential."
After selling midfielder Yohan Cabaye to Paris St-Germain for £19m on 29 January,Newcastle did not recruit a replacement in the remaining two days of the transfer window.
The arrival of strikers Luuk de Jong andLoic Remy, on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach and QPR respectively, were the only additions to the first-team squad while Kinnear was director of football.
Chelsea condemned Manchester City to a first home Premier League defeat of the season as the title race took its latest twist at Etihad Stadium.
City had won 11 out of 11 at home in the league before Chelsea's visit and knew another one over Jose Mourinho's side would have seen them leapfrog Arsenal and return to the top of the table.
Instead, Mourinho and Chelsea produced a counter-attacking masterclass perfectly designed to take advantage of City's natural attacking instincts, and Branislav Ivanovic's first-half goal gave them a thoroughly deserved win.
It was the first time City had failed to score in a home league match since November 2010 as the Premier League's most potent attack, with 68 goals, was kept out by the best defence - the visitors have conceded just 20.
This was no smash-and-grab tactical raid by Mourinho either, as his side hit the woodwork three times through Samuel Eto'o, Nemanja Matic and Gary Cahill. They could, and should, have won by a greater margin.
Chelsea, with Eden Hazard magnificent, now stand just two points behind leaders Arsenal and only adrift of City on goal difference, giving the sort of performance that suggests Mourinho's softly-softly approach to their title ambitions may simply be another piece of psychology to relieve pressure on his side.
This was a win that carried the Mourinho trademark of meticulous planning and coaching brilliance that had Chelsea's supporters once again singing the name of "The Special One".
And it was a result that means another turn in the title race, which seemed in City's hands after a series of imperious victories that hadseen them compared with the world's finest teams.
Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid: Ronaldo and Bale expected to play
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti says he expects Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale to feature against Atletico Madrid in Wednesday's Copa del Rey semi-final.
Ronaldo was sent off in Sunday's draw against Athletic Bilbao, but Ancelotti expects the Portugal forward to start.
The Italian added Wales winger Bale, who missed the Bilbao match with a calf injury, is also available.
Real host Diego Simeone's men in the first leg at the Bernabeu on the back of a 22-match unbeaten run.
Atletico won at the Bernabeu in September, but Real have not lost since defeat at Barcelona on 26 October.
"A different Real Madrid will play to the team that played Atletico in the league," said Ancelotti.
"I think we are playing well and are confident at the moment. We are balanced but we could still improve. I'm happy with the team."
The Italian said Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo will start, despite his straight red card for raising his hands in a confrontation with Athletic's Carlos Gurpegi.
Ronaldo's punishment for the dismissal will be revealed in a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday, but any resulting suspension is expected to see him miss only league games.
Bale, 24, has missed Real's last two matches with a calf injury, making only 13 appearances in La Liga after being hampered by injuries in his debut campaign.
But the Welshman has still managed to score 10 goals in all competitions for Los Blancos.
Jose Mourinho: Chelsea are not title contenders
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho still insists his side are not serious title contenders - despite inflicting a first Premier League home defeat of the season on Manchester City.
Branislav Ivanovic gave the Blues a 1-0 win to put them two points behind leaders Arsenal and level with City, but Mourinho says both rivals have a better chance of finishing top.
"The title race is between two horses and a little horse that needs milk and needs to learn how to jump," he said. "Maybe next season we can race."
Victory at Etihad Stadium meant Chelsea became the first team to do the double over Manchester City in the Premier League since Everton in 2010-11.
It was a deserved result for the visitors, who hit the woodwork three times in the match as they continually caught out Manuel Pellegrini's side on the counter-attack.
However, despite the impressive performance and result, Mourinho refuses to state publicly that his side are capable of beating Arsenal and City to the title this season.
"I don't agree we are title contenders," said the 51-year-old Portuguese. "We are a team in evolution but this is the kind of performance that helps a team grow up a little tactically and mentally. It was fantastic.
"We have beaten the best team, Manchester City, twice but they are the best team. I am not saying we are better than them but today we were the best team.
"We do better in these big games because we love it. We love the big games and when you love it maybe you feel an extra motivation."
He added it was not Chelsea's "objective" to win the league, adding: "Our objective is to build the team.
"I want to start the next pre-season and say this season we are going to win the league. This season, I can't."
Mourinho also revealed the final words of inspiration to his team before they took to the field at Etihad Stadium came from masseur Billy McCulloch rather than the manager himself.
"He was screaming at them in Scottish. I didn't understand a word," said Mourinho. "The players were clapping so I thought 'OK, that's good'. I'm serious."
It was City's first defeat since they were beaten 1-0 by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in November, but Pellegrini played down the significance of the result.
"For Chelsea, it was a decisive game, not for us," he said. "If we won, we were six points ahead of them. Now we are two points behind Arsenal."

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure gifted West Brom an equaliser as the Reds missed a chance to tighten their grip on fourth place in the Premier League.
Daniel Sturridge tapped in a Luis Suarez cross to put the visitors ahead.
Albion picked up the pace after the break and Gareth McAuley had a powerful header palmed away by Simon Mignolet.
But West Brom were rewarded for their efforts when Toure's poor pass found Baggies striker Victor Anichebe and he drilled in a low shot
Liverpool were left to hang on for a point in the end and the result will come as a relief to their rivals for the last Champions League place.
Everton, who lost heavily to the Reds on Tuesday, beat Aston Villa on Saturday and are now only two points behind their neighbours, while Brendan Rodgers' side failed to capitalise on slip-ups for Tottenham, who drew at Hull, and Manchester United, who were beaten at Stoke.
Only goal difference was keeping West Brom out of the bottom three before the game but an inspired second-half performance will give them hope of securing Premier League survival.
Rodgers began his Liverpool tenure with a 3-0 defeat at The Hawthorns in August 2012 but, following a tame opening, his side's prospects looked brighter this time round.
Raheem Sterling was set clear on the right and, after his cross was blocked, he passed to Suarez, who guided a ball to the far post where Sturridge steered it home from two yards for his 14th league goal of the season.
