Are Rooney and RVP ready for a United return? Deadly pair link up with Moyes' boys at team hotel before Cardiff clash

Manchester United may have been handed a massive boost ahead of Tuesday night's clash with Cardiff.

Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie were pictured with their United team-mates at Manchester's Lowry hotel.

Both frontmen were in club tracksuits, along with Juan Mata - leading to speculation the £37million signing will make his debut alongside United's dynamic duo.

Rooney has been missing with a groin strain since the New Year's Day defeat by Tottenham, while Van Persie suffered a thigh problem in the Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk last month.

Old Trafford boss David Moyes confirmed both strikers were back in training on Monday ahead of the visit of Red Devils legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

If Rooney and Van Persie do start alongside Mata, Moyes will have a near full-strength side.
The under-pressure manager revealed his disappointment at the campaign so far, insisting he will not tolerate failure from his side.

Luuk de Jong: Newcastle target travelling to club for medical

Borussia Monchengladbach striker Luuk de Jong is travelling to Newcastle for a medical and is expected to join the club on an initial loan deal.

The Netherlands international joined the German side for a reported £12.6m two years ago after scoring 45 goals in 86 games for FC Twente.

But the 23-year-old has found the net just six times in the Bundesliga.

"The striker is currently on his way to Newcastle for medical checks," his club confirmed on Twitter. 

De Jong could make his debut in Saturday's Tyne-Wear derby against Premier League rivals Sunderland.
