Blackpool have sacked Paul Ince after lengthy talks with the manager on Sunday night.
Chairman Karl Oyston hauled the boss, assistant Alex Rae and Steve Thompson to a four-hour meeting at his home, and the upshot is that Ince has been relieved of his duties.
Sportsmail understands that former Scotland captain Barry Ferguson has been given the job until the end of the season.
The Seasiders have been on a dismal run of form of late - losing nine of their last 10 games. And that came to a head after the 2-0 defeat away at Championship basement boys Barnsley on Saturday when Ince - or any of his staff - refused to address the media.
The slide has seen them slip from fourth to 14th in under two months and they are now just eight points above the bottom three.
Oyston was forthright in his views on Tuesday, telling the Blackpool Gazette: ‘You can’t be on the run we are on and not question the future of the manager.
‘I think we all have to look at ourselves and our role in what’s going on to see what we can do to arrest the problems.’
Oyston had bent the ear of former England captain Jimmy Armfield, who was a one-club man, over the last week.
Added to poor results on the pitch - Blackpool haven’t scored a league goal since Boxing Day - Ince has come under serious scrutiny for what is perceived to be a conflict of interest with son Tom
